A purpose-built lake situated in front of the cottages attracts a wide variety of native birds including Shags, Shelducks, White Herons, White-faced Herons, Pūkeko & Weka.
Camerons Beach often displays drifts of shifting black sand, large amounts of interesting driftwood, and a variety of granite, greywacke, serpentine & jasper, making Camerons Beach a popular gemstone fossicking beach. A variety of shore & seabirds inhabits the area throughout the year including Little Penguins, Plovers, Dotterels, Terns & Gulls.
