Fabulous golden and white sand beaches with magnificent coastal scenery, a rugged forest cloaked interior waiting to be explored, are just some of the natural attractions of the Coromandel. As a walkers paradise with a range of trails to explore, from short coastal walkways to multi day treks, the region will delight you at every turn.
Go for a swim, take a launch trip, sea kayak, be fascinated by the amazing seascapes of the marine reserves or visit an artists studio. The Coromandel became a mecca for hippies in the 60’s and 70’s so has a strong arts and crafts background that flourishes today.
The region has a rich mining history and there are plenty of opportunities to reflect on and learn more about that in one of the many intriguing museums.
Take in the annual Whitianga Scallop Festival if you can. Rock ‘n’ Rollers will love the annual Beach Hop at Whangamata – American muscle cars and rock ‘n’ roll!
